The Hooded Animal Container is a general purpose container
ideally suited for the often adverse environment created by
the air-transport of live-animals. It is particularly well
suited to the transport of tall, horned, or valuable animals
where all-around protection and in-flight accessibility is
desirable.
These containers differ from the Livestock Pens in that
they offer complete protection, including a base and
structural lid. They provide safe containment for animals
when the use of nets is not feasible. The hood can be slid
up during flight to allow partial access to the animals
without compromising their restraint. The large open areas in
the hood and partition provide excellent ventilation on the
ground and in the aircraft.
Animals are typically loaded into the containers on the
tarmac, or away from the aircraft. Animals are loaded
through tall doors at opposing ends of the adjacent pens.
The two pens are symmetric and the container can be placed
in either direction in the aircraft.
The size of the Hooded Container is optimized for narrow
body aircraft utilizing Size A (88 x 125) or Size B (88 x 108)
pallets such as the 727, DC-8 and 737. However, they also
serve to protect valuable animals as well on wide-body
aircraft. These containers provide excellent all-around
protection to both the animals and the aircraft.
Hooded Animal Containers are delivered flat, and can be
erected by a single person without tools or fasteners. Each
container is secured to a pallet with standard cargo straps
before loading.
The rugged fiberglass and aluminum construction of the
containers make them easy to clean with a high pressure
hose or steam cleaner.
This equipment meets the IATA Live Animal Regulations
container requirements 3; 24; 25; 73 and 74. As such, they
can be utilized for a large array of animal species shipped
singly or in bulk. They are designed for use on all of the
pallets and aircraft listed below.
Configurations Each Hooded Animal Container is partitioned in the center
to form two equal sized pens with two separate loading gates
on opposing sides of the container. The partition is designed
to afford visibility between the two separate pens, although
physical contact between animals is minimized.
Due to the partition, the containers can be used to
ship different but compatible animal species on the same
pallet. Reference the IATA Live Animal Handbook for animal
grouping information and compatibility based on size and
temperament of the animals to be shipped.
The standard container dimensions are shown below.
